In development for the Apple Vision Pro, this project explores how augmented reality interventions can deliver novel harm-reduction based tools to teens and young adults navigating social settings where alcohol-use is prevalent. Rather than rely on historically ineffective strategies that offer abstinence as the best approach, we provide knowledge about the risks of drinking and strategies for minimizing those risks. Something as simple as keeping a cup of water in your hand can prevent people from asking you if you want a drink, so that if you choose to do drink, you are doing so on your own timeline and your own terms. The goal of this project is not only to create an effective AR intervention, but also to compare it to a web based, non-immersive, version of the experience in order to see if the new approach offers any significant advantages over other modalities.
