THREE MONTHS LATER
I walk up the front door of Chad's house and I'm a little underwhelmed. The house is nice, but the training program showed party streamers and pounding music, bright lights and bottles on the lawn. It is just... a house? A big house, but you'd never think a party is going on. Maybe that's the point? Oh well, I'm adaptable. I wonder how many times I've seen this house and thought these thoughts, each time I fail my mission my memory is wiped from time travel sickness.
Inside is more lively, but it's smaller than I is expecting. I thought I'd see a sea of teenagers but it's pretty much just our class. Not that I'm mad, but the training certainly prepared me for worse. This should be a cake walk (side note: what is that even supposed to mean? How can a cake walk, there's no legs!)
I saw [[Isaac->Isaac Early]] working with something by the TV and [[Helen and Chad->Chad Early]] are talking by the bar. Poor [[Sally->Sally Early]] is crying on the couch. I heard something is wrong at school, I'll try to see what's up.

Helen sits across the table from Chad, looking dismissively. "Pffft, you and your "good stuff." No one needs to go bankrupt to have a good time. And I don't trust anything you've mixed up yourself, Chad. I'll just stick to my Heineken, thank you very much. The year is 2167. In the future, humanity has spread across the galaxy. The universe enjoys a golden age of boundless prosperity. Galactic anthropologists have recently determined the root of all of humanity’s splendor back to 2023. One quiet morning in small town America became host to an advanced Alien race that landed in its fields, ready to join in union with humanity.
The night before, a group of high school students held a party at a house. Incomplete reports indicate that at least one of these partygoers will become one of the chief representatives for Earth. Time Cartographers have recently noticed a deviation in the timelines. A new branch has split which threatens this chain of events. The change? In this new timeline the teenagers aren't drinking responsibly and will be too hungover to act as a representative of Earth.
This change can prove disastrous as this variance grows. It is your job to prevent this and ensure the party goes as planned and minimize any dangers.
You will be provided with a fake identity and be embedded into their high school. You will also be given a scanner embedded in your eyes to assist you on your mission. A glossary has also been provided to provide you with detailed information in the field. It is up to you to save the universe!

Teams will be fun and that way dudes won’t have an advantage, I mean Helen says she can drink like a guy all the time but if it didn’t actually make a difference I wouldn’t have gotten a C on my biology exam after believing her. Either that or one beer drinker and the other person is on punch. Debbie, we should make our own tournament, since Isaac’s already got half the people here signing up for his in the other room. Besides, having some time away from the table between matches might mean the rest of you have a chance to recover enough to compete with me!"
Debbie walks over with Brian, the two of them begins setting up the teams.

She looks concernedly at Isaac."Yo Isaac, are you alright? Brian is cool but once he gets competitive it is like, well, like he can be a jerk. I didn’t realize you weren’t drinking either. At least I don’t have to worry about you. If at least one of us has it together, the furniture won’t get wrecked and Chad’s parents will let him keep hosting. Remember the last party when you had to keep Chad from puking on his parents couch?"
Isaac nods softly. "Totally. I’m fine. I say it is the medication I’m taking, which is sorta true, but honestly I just don’t want to black out again. I did that once and totally made a sloppy move on a friend who is still pissed at me. I don’t even remember doing it. That’s what Tik Tok is for though. Their friend posted it and the whole school got to watch me get rejected, which I deserved, and you know everyone’s parents are on there lurking. It may look fun in a show, but I’m still living down mistakes I don’t even remember making." Debbie nods in understanding.
Isaac grabs a clip board and begins to fill in information. "I’m going to get a Smash Bros tournament going for anyone not in the mood for beer pong and, honestly, that’s like peak party for me. I have been wanting to make something like this happen for ages."

I was keeping to my rhythm most of the night but still, but I did just finish a beer."
Debbie looked receptive, but aware Helen would need more help than a cup of coffee. "Hey Helen, look, Chad's out of chips. I'm going to swing by the store to pick some up. Your place is on the way. Do you just want a ride home? Besides, you know that coffee won’t sober you up. It might give you energy, but then you are just drunk with energy, and also not getting any sleep. Chad’s parents are cool if you leave your car, you know that, I think they actually prefer it. Tomorrow, I can pick you up for hockey practice and then drop you off here on my way home."
Helen put her keys back in her pocket and says, "Thanks. If my parents know I had to get a ride, then they totally know I was drinking. I’d rather they didn’t know, but at least it shows I was responsible enough not to drive. They’ll probably just be annoyed, not pissed."

I took her keys but can you guys help me if she makes a scene? I can’t believe you guys started competing over shots! Helen might drink a lot but, no matter what she says, girls get drunk faster than boys regardless of how much they weigh. If you want to be such a great host why don’t make sure your friends have a good time instead of throwing up in your bathroom or having to chauffeur people around!"
Debbie took a breather and looked to me. "Can you at least check on Sally for me, I’m her ride tonight and supposed to be watching out for her, I mean she got dumped like 4 hours ago."
Helen struggled to walk to join the conversation. "I can drive myself! I just need some coffee and I'll be fine. I've done it before. I always bring a bagel or something in my purse just in case, it’s no big deal. Let me chug a glass of water and wait it out for like 10 minutes, I will be fine, you guys are overreacting."
Chad looked to Helen, shaking his head. "No, Debbie is right, this is my party foul, I shouldn’t have challenged you to shots. And, if you are packing bagels or whatever, you need to hit those before you drink anyways. Look, just leave your car and let Debbie take you home, my parents are totally chill with you guys leaving your cars if it means you aren’t driving drunk. Besides, if you go home driving drunk and get into an accident, that can land me in trouble too, so if you’re too proud to get a ride for your own sake do it as a favor to me. Debbie, I know you are pissed off but take this for her, it has a little straw thing so she can drink it on the ride home. The water really does help with the hangover."
Chad pulls out a water bottle and makes sure it was filled before he handed it to Helen. Chad and I watch Helen and Debbie leave, and he excuses himself to take some time to himself.

Debbie shakes her head. "I don’t know if Isaac is that much more confident than you, or if you are just hard on yourself. He probably brought the game forexactly this reason, so there would be activities for everyone not drinking. I genuinely just like playing Beer Pong. If that stuff kicks in and Chad keeps offering you drinks, just keep a glass of juice or anything else on hand and say you are still working on something. That’s what I do."
Daniel stays quiet, perhaps reflecting on her words. Helen shows her Solo Cup filled before taking a sip.

"You're right, screw the couch. Here, lets get her on her side and get the nausea down. I'll call my parents and they'll take her to get checked out once things settle. I'm sorry, I should have been more careful."

"Hey mom. Hey so, uh, something happened at my party. Yeah, no I know. It's my fault. Brian's blacked out. I don't know what to do. No I get it, I was dumb. I should have been more careful. Look, can you please come home, I need help. Also, uh, I spilled some drinks on the couch. Yeah, grandma's couch. Look, I'm- yes -no, look I'm really sorry. We can talk more about this later, Brian really needs the help right now."

"Hey mom. Hey so, uh, something happened at my party. Brian's blacked out and this new kid just called 911. I don't know what to do, he screwed me over. What do you mean it's my fault? I've held parties before, I know what I'm doing. No, I didn't mean it that way. Look, can you please come home, I need help. Also, uh, I spilled some drinks on the couch. Yeah, grandma's couch. CODE: EndHelen chuckles, showing me the inside of her cup. "Oh this? It’s fruit punch, a decoy, I just told Daniel, it’s my whole strategy to avoid Chad’s efforts to win ‘host of the year’ or something. I’m the DD but that doesn’t always mean people remember or respect that you’re not drinking at all. I know Helen has a system of making sure she is sober enough, where she only has a beer an hour and drinks water between. It works, but only if you actually stick to it. And to be honest, I just don’t like beer!"
She sighs. "I know everyone lovingly calls me the party mom, I don’t always want to be a chauffeur. It would be nice if other people kept it together every once in a while, so I get a night off. "
Brian calls out from across the room, [["Alright, who's my next victim?"->BrianGame]]
CODE: IsaacGame3Awhile later I arise victorious, having beaten everyone, and Isaac packs his games, ready to call it a night and head home.
Chad calls out to Isaac as he's leaving. "Hey, stay safe Isaac. Thanks for being an absolute goat tonight. I can’t wait to see what other games you found! I didn’t even get to play tonight!"
After Isaac leaves, Chad turns to me, questioning what his next moves should be. Then he says, "Dude, it's too quiet now that the game tournament is over. I know what'll pick this back up, we need some music."
[[Something's wrong. Where's Sally?->Sally]](if: $HPosEnd is true)[The front door shuts and Debbie walks into the room. "I'm back. Helen's going to be fine." and then she sees Sally on the couch and looks angrily into my eyes. "What happened? I thought you were going to watch her?"
Before I can reply, she turns her attention to tending to Sally. "Sally you look super pale. How much did you drink? You said the doctor told you not to drink because you were starting a new medicine. I can practically hear your heart from over here, I think you are having a reaction or something. I saw your glass earlier and it was filled to the brim, I assumed it was just the plain punch. Sally that was a ton of alcohol, we need to go to urgent care and make sure you aren’t getting a reaction from your medicine. What is the stuff you’re taking called, I want to google it really quick?"
Debbie grabs her phone and waits for Sally's reply. Sally seems frustrated and says, "I'm not high! I just had 1 cup of Chad's juice mix. I don’t know the name of the medicine off the top of my head, it was like twenty syllables long. I think I will be fine now that you’re here." She takes a deep breath, trying to console herself, "I just… did I tell you Sam didn’t text me back yet? I’m ok, I’m fine, I… I don’t know the name of the medicine, it was long it like… I don’t know it had like twenty syllables."
[[Daniel chimes in->Daniel]]]
(if: $HNegEnd is true)[Sally starts panicking, "didn’t you say that Debbie was just taking Helen home, why isn’t she back yet! I think I need to go home or something, my heart is racing like really hard. And I don’t… Is Debbie not here? I keep texting Sam and she won’t even... Look, I think I might need to go home, wasn’t she just supposed to be dropping Helen off? Why was she dropping off Helen? I just started taking some new meds, I mean it was just one drink, right, Chad what was in the drink you gave me."
Chad tries to calm her down, "Sally, seriously, everything is cool, it was basically just vodka and fruit punch, nothing weird. Debbie texted to tell me to check on you cause Helen threw up in her car. She pulled over to let Helen finish on the curb, she’s coming back after she gets Helen sorted and grabs some paper towels from a gas station. If it makes you feel better, she’s blowing up my phone with expletives because I was the one who talked Helen into taking shots.
She’s coming back and she has me watching your back. Just don't freak out. Do you want a beer or anything, or no, sorry I’m being stupid, you want some water or a juice or whatever?"
Sally shakes her head violently, her voice fluctuating between panic and anger. " I am freaking out, Chad! My heart feels like its beating out of my chest! Sorry, you’re right… I just started taking a new medicine and they said not to drink on it, but it was just one drink, right? I mean, do I like need to go to a hospital or something? I just want to google it and I can’t remember the name; it was like twenty syllables long. I mean it can’t be that big of a deal though, right? It was just one drink, Chad what did you say was in that drink?"
[[Daniel steps into the conversation->DanielSally]]]"No way you need to go to a hospital! Your nerves are just fried. It’s anxiety, I mean that is why you are taking the medicine in the first place, I’m probably on the same stuff. Look, I live a block away and I have some high-quality hash back at my house, it’s Indica, total body high, it'll take the edge off. You just need some chill beats and a good distraction. And you need to forget about Sam, if she’s ghosting you she doesn’t deserve you. That’s probably what’s making your heart race."
Sally looks unsure, "Maybe you're right. Maybe I'm just upset... I can’t believe Sam isn’t getting back to me, I know we broke up but still… "
Daniel sighs, "Look, I know an anxiety attack when I see one. I get anxious too, especially at parties. I know weed affects everyone differently but for me it helps when I’m all over the place. If you go to the hospital that will be a major pain in the ass, super expensive, and all they are going to do is like judge you and call your parents. I will make a really light joint that is like 80% tobacco with just a little hash, it’ll calm you down and we can listen to some of those new records I told you about earlier. Debbie can pick you up from my place, or I can call you an Uber if you want to go home."

CODE: SallyLateScanner2Sally looks unsurely at Daniel. "How far is your house? You said that it was a block or two away? I could use the fresh air, I think I need to just catch my breath. I can’t believe I am getting so worked up, this has been such a brutal week with everything going on at school, and then Sam just… I definitely need to go for a walk."
Daniel nods at her. "We can walk for sure and, if you need, we can even circle the block a few times if just walking makes you feel better. The neighborhood here is pretty chill, the weather is nice, we can do whatever you want. If you need a ride home I can call an uber or something."
Chad looks relieved. He looks at Daniel, "Dan, you’re the man, I’ll text Debbie that you guys are heading to your place and see what she wants to do. Next time though bring the records and weed here! Debbie has your number right? I know she’ll get my text because she is sending me one every two minutes! I’ll just say that Sally is fine and she can relax if she needs to just go home and clean her car out or something."
Sally and Daniel leave the house, I'm unsure if I made the right choice, hopefully Debbie can check in on Sally soon. [[I should make sure Brian is alright.->CURRENTSPOT Brian]]
(set:$SallyEnd1 to true)Sally looks shocked. "No way, I'm not going to a clinic all by myself in the middle of the night! Daniel, how far is your house? Can we please walk there and not rush, I might just need fresh air to clear my head. This has been a brutal week; I’m so mad at Sam, and I can’t believe Debbie just left me here without a ride. I don’t want to end up at some clinic till four in the morning. Plus, it would probably cost half of what saved from my job last summer. I’d rather just be with someone and chill out."
Daniel shakes his head, piggy-backing on Sally's reaction. "We can walk for sure and, if you need, we can even circle the block a few times if just walking makes you feel better. The neighborhood here is pretty chill, the weather is nice, we can do whatever you want. If you need a ride home I can call an uber or something.
